CHLA-USC Proteomics Core Facility

The new USC-CHLA Proteomics Core Facility provides high-sensitivity and high-resolution mass spectrometry for protein and peptide analysis as its primary technology. The Core will be active in technology development to improve protein identification and post-translational modification analysis in complex mixture of proteins from biological tissue and fluids.

Flow Cytometry Core

The Flow Cytometry Core Facility provides the research community with the technology to selectively phenotype and sort specific populations of cells. The Core Facility currently maintains two cytometers used to address questions in cellular immunology, cell biology, chemical carcinogenesis, radiology, human tumor cell cycle kinetics, mechanisms of drug action and differences between patient samples and normal donors. Health Research Association

Health Research Association (HRA) provides clinical trial support services, including fiscal management, project staffing, purchasing, contracting, budgeting, project accounting, sponsor/investigator financial reporting, staff development and training, IRB document preparation, study opportunities, proposal preparation/grant writing, and other clinical research administrative tasks. The Investigational Drug Pharmacy at HRA manages all investigational product tracking, mixing, dispensing and monitoring.

Histology Lab

The USC School of Pharmacy Histology Laboratory, is ready to help you with your histology and pathology research. This school-wide core laboratory is open to any USC researcher and has everything you will need to make microscope slides from tissue samples. Tissues can be paraffin embedded, sectioned and stained in the laboratory.

NanoBiophysics Core Facility

The NanoBiophysics Facility is designed for the study of the structure and interaction of biological and synthetic molecules with emphasis on Nanoscience research. The core currently has resources to study molecular and nanostructures with Biacore surface plasmon resonance instrument T100, Light Scattering Equipment, both Dynamic and Multiangle devices from Wyatt, a Spectrofluorometer QuantaMaster from PTI with near-IR capabilities, solid sample holder and time-resolved accessory, an Atomic Force Microscope Nanoscope IIIa, and a Universal Microplate Reader GENios.

Norris Cancer Center Bio-Reagent Core

The Norris Cancer Center Bioreagent and Cell Culture Core supports cancer related research that requires in vitro experiments, provides reagents for cell culture and prepares Bioreagents that are produced by cells grown in the facility. The Core has acquired a New Brunswick BioReactor and is in the process of developing and evaluating lipofectin preparations for cell transfection.

Norris PharmacoAnalytical Core

The USC/Norris Core Pharmaco-Analytical Laboratory develops, validates and performs qualitative and quantitative drug assays and their metabolites in various biological matrices. The laboratory provides analytic capability including high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using conventional UV/visible and fluorescence detection, and is upgrading its resources, including liquid chromatograph mass spectrometry (LC-MS).

Pancreas and Liver Transplant Core

The Department of Pancreas and Liver Transplant Surgery Core offers core laboratory support in three areas: Cell culture, molecular biology, and subcellular organelle. It provides cell line banking and hepatocyte cultures; offers highly-purified plasma membrane, mitochondrial and microsomal specimens for use in transport, metabolic and biochemical studies; and oligonucleotide synthesis along with a number of other custom services.

Research Subject Advocacy Services

Research Subject Advocate (RSA) Services serve as a resource for investigators regarding issues related to subject rights, safety and safe conduct of research in humans. They also assist investigators in development or evaluation of Data Safety Monitoring Plans, serve as a resource for patients who have questions about their rights as research subjects and their participation in research protocols and monitor the informed consent process for studies utilizing vulnerable subjects.

Stem Cell Core

The USC Stem Cell Core is a comprehensive support facility and central hub for the dissemination of resources, knowledge and state of the art equipment. Our goal is to accelerate research by providing reagents, training, assistance and laboratory space to investigators working with (pluripotent) stem cells. We distribute a number of quality controlled stem cell lines and stem cell culture reagents. The Core facility is equipped with communal laboratory space for researchers to conduct pilot and collaborative research. This space contains state of the art cell culture and analytical equipment.

Translational Pathology Core

The Norris Cancer Center Translational Pathology Core provides normal and tumor tissue specimens necessary for many of the laboratory-based, epidemiologic and clinical studies being conducted by Cancer Center investigators. Services include the supply of fresh or frozen adult normal and tumor tissue specimens, pediatric normal and tumor tissue specimens, and population-based, fixed tissue specimens.
