Taking the Humanities to the NSF
This discussion will review the process of bringing a large humanities-based research proposal to the NSF. The collaborative proposal for the “Aerospace History Project” outlined a number of research arenas for which NSF funding was critical. The effort was fully funded for several years; this discussion will highlight the project’s goals, discuss the opportunities available from ostensibly science-based funders for humanities-based research, and relay early findings from the on-going research effort.
William Deverell, Professor of history, and Director of the Huntington-USC Institute on California and the West.
