Upcoming Due Date for Provost New Directions in Research and Scholarship Award + Research Awards Made this Year
Proposals for the Provost New Directions in Research and Scholarship program are due on July 1, providing $250,000 to each interdisciplinary team, awarded for its work on new topics that have not previously received grant funding at USC or elsewhere. Proposals may fall in any area of research and scholarship, provided that the work (1) is novel and innovative, and (2) demonstrates potential to establish USC as a leader in new areas of scholarship and research. The New Directions award, established by provost Quick, is among 10 peer-reviewed programs in the USC Office of Research funding faculty led research initiatives aimed at: (1) supporting junior faculty in establishing their careers, (2) catalyzing collaborative and interdisciplinary research, (3) advancing diversity and inclusion, and (4) creating innovations that benefit society. With support from the provost, USC endowment and the Rose Hills Foundation, we have awarded 41 grants and nearly $5 million over the last six months in these areas:
- Collaboration Fund
- Zumberge Individual
- Zumberge Diversity and Inclusion
- Zumberge Interdisciplinary:
- Ming Hsieh Institute for Research on Engineering-Medicine for Cancer
- Core Instrumentation (including major school-led awards)
- Rose Hills Innovator Award
- Stevens Center Technology Advancement Grants
