Integration of IRB and DCG Offices

May 31, 2018 — USC has historically operated separate offices for the Department of Contracts and Grants and the Institutional Review Board (IRB) on the Health Science and University Park Campuses. At one time, it was important to have physical presences on the two central campuses because of the paper-flow between academic departments and the research offices. (more…)

Distribution of USC Software

May 9, 2018 — The Stevens Center, working with its Faculty Advisory Committee, has created new guidance documents on open source software. Please save and consult these documents for information on how best to protect and share software without sacrificing commercialization potential, while meeting legal requirements. Rigor and Transparency in Research

May 4, 2016 — The Academic Senate has passed a resolution endorsing a report of the Joint Academic Senate/Provost Committee on Research that recommends best practices and strategies for USC to excel in research through rigor and transparency, in light of what technology offers today. Read More

Commercializing Intellectual Property

March 29, 2016 — Intellectual property can be protected through patents or copyright and commercialized for public benefit. Examples at USC include technologies and software used in mobile phone displays, joint replacement surgeries, digital modeling of human faces, and language translation. Here is a Memo

MOU with the Center for Open Science (COS)

March 17, 2016 — COS will provide training and infrastructure to support research at USC. The center's Open Science Framework (OSF) is a data sharing network that facilitates collaborative research providing individual researchers a means for centralizing data storage integration and sharing across the research lifecycle. Initiation of Clinical Trials Office in Keck School of Medicine

Announcing USC’s Center for Health Systems Innovation

September 18, 2015 — The Center for Health Systems Innovation (CHSI), a new university-level Organized Research Unit, will be led by Dr. Carol Peden. CHSI will serve as a bridge between Keck Medicine of USC & faculty & students interested in research & education aimed at improving the quality & efficiency of health care delivery. Expansion of Corporate Research Collaboration Support at USC Stevens

June 18, 2015 — Addition of two new staff within Corporate Collaborations group at USC Stevens focusing on the Life Science industry and on Physical and Information Science industries. New Single Molecule Microscope

March 17, 2015 — The Office of Research, through its Core Instrumentation Fund, has partnered with the NCCC to acquire an N-Storm single molecule microscope. This new microscope complements USC's rapidly expanding capabilities in super-resolution microscopy. For more information.

New Super Resolution Microscope System

August 26, 2013 — USC is installing a new DeltaVision OMX super resolution microscope in its Center for Electron Microscopy and Microanalysis (CEMMA) in September, providing 3D structured illumination. This acquisition is supported by the provost's core instrumentation fund along with the Dornsife College and Viterbi School.
