Grants Management Training for Faculty
The responsibilities of Principal Investigators are rapidly evolving and maintaining up to date knowledge in research administration can be a challenge. In recognition of these changes and your obligations as PIs, the Department of Contracts and Grants in conjunction with the Office of Compliance has developed a Grants Management Training Program for Faculty, consisting of two courses:
- Grants Management Training for Faculty (2 Hours)
- Research Ethics (1 Hour)
The two-course program is mandatory for all new faculty prior to receipt of a extramurally sponsored award and is available on-line via USC Trojan Learn.

How Do I Launch the Courses?
You are encouraged to load the Browser Check feature inside of Trojan Learn before beginning the course. The Browser Check will identify if your computer and browser meet the minimum requirements to launch the course and if popups are disabled (popups must be enabled to launch the course).
- Point your browser to the Trojan Learn portal and log in using your USC ID.
- Click the Contracts and Grants link on the right side of the page.
- Click on the Request button next to the program title. The program will be added to your Transcript.
- From your Transcript, click Open Curriculum.
- Click the Required for Completion tab (on the left side of your screen) and then click the Launch button to begin the courses.
Once you click “Launch”, the class may take a couple minutes to load.
Please note that you can exit either class at any time and your progress will be saved. At the end of each class, you will be presented with a short quiz.
How Long Do I Have to Complete the Program?
You have until the time your grant is awarded to complete the training. If the grant is awarded and you have not completed the course, the award will not be processed or an account identified for the funding. We suggest you complete the course as early as possible to avoid any delays in processing an award.
