Estimated Number of Awards:    The number of awards is contingent upon NIH appropriations and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.

Anticipated Amount:                     NIH intends to fund an estimate of 6-10 awards, corresponding to a total of $50,000,000 for fiscal year 2021.

Process for Limited Submissions: PIs must submit their application as a Limited Submission through the Office of Research Application Portal: https://research.usc.edu/usc-grants/.

Materials to submit include:

(1) Single Page Proposal Summary (0.5” margins; single-spaced; font type: Arial, Helvetica, or Georgia typeface; font size: 11 pt). Page limit includes references and illustrations. Pages that exceed the 1-page limit will be excluded from review.

(2) CV – (5 pages maximum)

Note: The portal requires information about the PIs and Co-PIs in addition to department and contact information, including the 10-digit USC ID#, Gender, and Ethnicity. Please have this material prepared before beginning this application.

Who May Serve as PI:                    Multiple PDs/PIs are not allowed.

The PD/PI should hold appropriate stature within the institutional administration structure and be able to oversee various facets of the entire construction/modernization project. The PD/PI should also demonstrate his/her leadership skills to recruit and guide expert Key Personnel with complementary scientific and technical skills to successfully plan, design, and accomplish the construction project.

Purpose:                                   NIH recognizes the importance of all institutions of higher learning in contributing to the nation’s research capacity. The goal of this FOA is to upgrade or create novel biomedical research infrastructure to strengthen biomedical research programs. Each project is expected to provide long-term improvements to the institutional research infrastructure. Targeted projects are the modernization of core facilities and the development of other infrastructure serving an institution-wide research community on a shared basis.
